ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION IS THE REVOLUTION!
As students and stewards of creation, we have the responsibility of taking good care of our nature and maintaining its cleanliness and orderliness.
One environmental issue that we are currently facing and should solve is the destruction of our ecosystems. These ecosystems not only help balance the equilibrium of life between nature and humans, but it also provides us, humans, all the necessities that we need and wants., in other words, we depend our lives on the environment. So, if we let our actions destroy these ecosystems that are beneficial to us, then we are all affected negatively, these include the biotic (living) and abiotic (nonliving) organisms. These effects include but not limited to destruction of biodiversity, and natural resources will decrease.
One solution that we can do for us
to solve this issue and save mother earth, is ecosystem restoration. Ecosystem
restoration means assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been
degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving the ecosystems that are still
intact. Healthier ecosystems, with richer biodiversity, yield greater
benefits such as more fertile soils, bigger yields of timber and fish, and
larger stores of greenhouse gases.
Restoration can happen in many
ways – for example through actively planting or by removing pressures
so that nature can recover on its own. It is not
always possible – or desirable – to return an ecosystem to its original
state. We still need farmland and infrastructure on land that was once
forest, for instance, and ecosystems, like societies, need to adapt to a
changing climate.
As responsible students, we can contribute to the restoration of our ecosystems by the following deeds and actions:
1.
Advocate the
protection and conservation of our nature and our remaining ecosystems, we can
use our actions, influence, and voice to achieve this
2.
Be a good example to
others, do and continue doing actions that are beneficial to our nature and
ecosystems such as using less trash, planting more trees and plants, and doing the
5R’s.
There is a day that is celebrated annually to celebrate and encourage awareness and environmental protection, and this is called the World Environment Day. To give a little history and background of this day, World Environment Day was launched by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1972 which was the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the human environment.
Every
World Environment Day is hosted by a different country, in which official
celebrations take place, and this year’s host is Pakistan. The event will
include inspiring messages from world leaders, activists, celebrities, and
musical performances as well as Pakistan’s host country programme. To join
celebrations and activities in Geneva, explore the dedicated section of this
page.
Let this day be a moment for us to appreciate and give importance
to our nature and find creative and efficient solutions to solve the environmental
problems that we currently have and to maintain the orderliness of our
environment..
