Now, We value passing over learning
With the rising cases of COVID 19 here in the Philippines. The government implemented a lockdown policy which made all of the citizens stay at home and only go out if it is necessary.. Since it is also time for back to school and we can't physically achieve that, The Department of Education decided to still continue this academic year and introduce new modes of learning: the online, modular, and the blended. 2 weeks in the modular learning proposed by DepEd and we students and teachers have rising concerns regarding about the quality of our education today. Students are not learning anymore, students are presented with a pile of assignments that is needed to be done in a couple of days and the only resource that we have is a concept note that is sometimes incomplete, and a slow internet connection that consumes our time for knowledge. Teachers are still underpaid and severely overworked due to handling the modules per student every week. DepEd is clearly blind about all of these issues and thinks that we have the best quality education since they are celebrating their "victory". The quality of education we have is declining, deteriorating and it is worse than before because now, we, the students are treated more like a robot who should do tasks in just a little amount of time. Students don't have any time for themselves anymore, we are exhausted, numb, and currently contemplating if this is the education we have here in the Philippines.
We are not learning anymore, we are instead just passing assignments and redoing the whole process again every week. Some students even committed suicide and acquired some mental illnesses but the Department of Education would not care and just carry on and make more money out of these institutions. There is no surprise that we have one of the lowest quality of education in Asia. Just take a look at students who are overall tired about all of this and the teachers who put so much effort in making our education still work during this difficult times. An Academic Freeze may not be the answer but Mass Testing is. The government should have a plan in making this country COVID 19 free. We all want to go back from what it was before because honestly speaking face to face classes are better to what we are doing right now.

I like the image that you used! It gives this blog post a newspaper-y vibe to it!
ReplyDeleteit is really relatable among students in this pamdemic. It seemed like our persevarence to learn has plummeted and we aren't really learning at all. This blog was great, good job
ReplyDeleteBesides that, the links were really directed properly
DeleteI am really amazed how you create your article. Students, parents, and also teachers are struggling with the way of learning during this pandemic. Teachers are underpaid, students can't easily understand the lessons given, and parents lack of money to buy the needs of their children. Despite these challenges, we must strive and work harder for our dreams and goals.
ReplyDeleteAnother disappointing article. If you don't want to learn then just stop. If you want to waste one year then be my guest. People nowadays are very ignorant. Why not study if you can ?why not try? You seem to want to get it easy.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this blog and I agree with all your statements.
